Sunsets

A beautiful December sunset. As I was traveling down I-44 from Randlett to Wichita Falls, I pulled over on the shoulder to take some pictures of the sunset.

Sunsets can change in a matter of seconds. I took the first one at the regular setting, and then I zoomed in on the second one to get a closer shot. By the time I had taken the second picture the sunset had already changed. Situations in life can change you and your surroundings in a matter of seconds, just like the sunset.

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised. Psalms 113:3

Are You a Nero, Zero, or Hero?

Simple question, story conveys powerful message. This article was from Travis AFB, Calif.

I still remember my high school principal, Wayne Hines, asking our entering freshman class, "Are you a Nero, Zero, or Hero?" and explaining its meaning.

On a normal bell curve, from left to right, fall Nero, Zero, and Hero. For Nero, think class bully. Based on the Roman emperor who burnt down much of his empire. Nero is selfish, undisciplined and destructive. Left unchecked, Nero's negative behavior destroys morale, unit cohesion and readiness.

Much less destructive, but not putting forth any more effort than absolutely necessary, Zero aims for mediocrity and usually achieves it. Just squeaking by, Zero barely seems to exist and wants little to do with the team. Uninspied and uninspiring, Zero is forgettable.

And then ther's Hero, the role-model airman, who epitomizes Air Force core values. Hero does the right thing(integrity first, is dedicated to his team first (service before self), and always strives to be the best (excellence in all we do).

Proud, professional and positive, Hero is who everyone wants on their team. Hero brings out the good in others and is always ready, willing and able to answer the call when needed.

Nero, Zero, Hero.. a simple story with a simple message. Be a Hero. Make a difference. Aim high and do not accept mediocrity ot the status quo. Be involved, be positive and never underestimate the impact one person can have to make a difference in the world. If you have not seen it yet, watch the film, "Pay it Forward," for what some do to make a difference and inspire others to do the same. After you watch the movie, I challenge you to "Pay it Forward."

With our country at war with an all-volunteer force, I want to thank each of you for making a difference and inspiring me. What can be nobler than selflessly willing to lay down your life so others may live in freedom and have a safer and better world? Thanks to our loved ones for their daily services, sacrifice and support. Your loves makes us stronger and reminds us why we serve. Thank you Veterans for "Paying it Forward."

All of you are Heroes in my book.

For the last few days every time I turn the radio on I have heard these three scriptures on 2 or 3 different radio stations, so I hope that maybe someone will be blessed by them.

I found this article in the newspaper and I hope it is as meaningful to you as it was to me, not only on Veteran's Day or Memorial Day, but every day. They have earned our gratitude and our unending support.

Back in Sept. of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten.

On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principle and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom. When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.

Looking around, confused, they asked, "Ms Cothren, where are our desks?"

She replied, "You can't have a desk until you tell me what you have done to earned the right to sit at a desk."

They thought, "Well, maybe it is our grades." "No," she said. "Maybe it is our behavior." She told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."

And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom. By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, "Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she had done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you."

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it. Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall.

By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.

Martha said, "You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks.. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it is up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibilityto learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it."

The Battle Inside

One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between 2 wolves.

"One is Evil. It is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is God. It is joy, peace, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

"Ticklish Reuben," is a folk song written by Cal Stewart in 1900. Released on the Victor Label, the song is a prime example of the "laughing song" genre. Initially the tune starts off normally, then descends into an abyss of maniacal, sinister laughing.

Lyrics as follows:

Oh,
My name is Ticklish Reuben
From way down in old Vermont
And ev'rything seems ticklish to me

I've been tickled by a feather
I've been tickled by a wasp
I've been tickled by a yellow bumblebee

I have always got a tickled sort of way about my clothes
It doesn't really matter where I be
I am tickled in the morning and I'm tickled in the night
Something's always sure to tickle me

hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah
hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah

(repeat x12)

Once I put some pepper into Dad's snuffbox
And the way he acted was a sight to see
Well he coughed and he sneezed till I thought he'd have a fit
And then he took me out to tickle me

I was always getting tickled by someone about the house
So why they take to ticklin' I could never see
And the apple-butter paddle it is all in splinters now
Daddy wore it out a-ticklin' me

"Hallelujah"

"Hallelujah" is considered the most joyful word of praise to God, rather than an injunction to praise Him.

George Frederic Handel (1685-1759) wrote the "Messiah."
The composer was in despair. Struggling to earn a living in London, he knew there would be days when he could not afford to buy meals. One night in 1741, depressed and defeated, he wandered the lonely streets; it was almost dawn when he returned to his shabby room. On a table was a thick envelope. It was from Charles Jennens, the man who wrote his librettos. Examining the pages, he found them covered with Scripture texts.

Wearily, he tossed the pages aside and crawled into bed. But he could not sleep. The words he had read returned to him:

"Comfort ye, comfort ye, my people, saith your God...The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light...For unto us a Child is born...Glory to God in the highest...Hallelujah! Hallelujah!"

Too stirred to sleep, he got up and went to his piano. The music flowed from his heart, and he began to write. Night and day for three weeks, he wrote feverishly. He forgot sleep, food, rest, and refused to see anyone. At last, on the day the work was finished, one friend managed to gain entrance into his home, and this is what he found.

The composer was at his piano, sheets of music strewn around him, tears streaming down his face and he said, "I do believe I have seen all of Heaven before me, and the great God himself."

The first audience to hear the composition--was in Dublin in 1742, which gave it the greatest ovation in the city's history. Weeks later, London heard it for the first time, and again it was a triumph. The King was so impressed during the Hallelujah chorus that he rose to his feet--a custom that still prevails. The text is taken from the Bible and forms a dramatic commentary on the whole prophecy and fullfillment of the redemption of man. It is in three parts:
1) The prophecy and coming of the Messiah.
2) The redemption of mankind through the sacrifice of Jesus.
3) The Thanksgiving for the ultimate defeat of death through faith in the Kingdom of God.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The kingdom of this world is become
the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and of His Christ;
and He shall reign for ever and ever
and He shall reign for ever and ever
and He shall reign for ever and ever
and He shall reign for ever and ever

King of Kings,
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
and Lord of Lords,
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

King of Kings,
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
and Lord of Lords,
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

King of Kings,
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
and Lord of Lords,
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

King of Kings, and Lord of Lords,
and He shall reign for ever and ever
and He shall reign for ever and ever

King of Kings
for ever and ever. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

and He shall reign for ever and ever,
for ever and ever,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords,
and He shall reign for ever and ever,

King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Samson's weakness

Samson-meaning "of the sun"; proclaiming that he was radiant and mighty. The name "Samson" is derived from shemesh("sun"), so that Samson bore the name of God, who is also a "a sun and shield". [Psalms 84:12] As God protected Israel, so did Samson watch over it in his generation, judging the people even as God did. Samson's strength was divinely derived. Samson resembled God in requiring neither aid or help.

Samson was said to be so strong that he could uplift two mountains and rub them together like two clods of earth, yet his superhuman strength, like Goliaths, brought woe upon its possessor. Samson is something of a Hercules figure, utilizing massive strength to combat his enemies and to perform heroic feats unachievable by ordinary men: wrestling a lion, slaying an entire army with nothing more than a donkey's jawbone, and tearing down an entire building.

Samson falls in love with a woman, Delilah (which is a Jewish name), at the Brook of Sorek. (Judges 16). Sorek is a "fruitless tree"(means "empty" in Hebrew),implying a moral lesson suggesting that Samson's involvement in his affair with Delilah was eventually "fruitless". However,another etymology suggest that "sorek" means"special vine" and refers to the grapes and wines grown in the area.

The Philistines approach Delilah and induce her (with 1100 silver coins) to try to find the secret of Samson's strength. Samson does not want to tell her the secret, so he teases her, telling her that he can be bound with fresh bowstrings. She does so while he sleeps, but when he wakes up he snaps the strings. She persists, and he tells her he can be bound with new ropes. She binds him with new ropes while he sleeps, and he snaps them, too. She asks again, and he says he can be bound if his locks are woven together. She weaves them together, but he undoes them when he wakes. Eventually Samson tells Delilah that he will lose his strength with the loss of his hair. Delilah means "weak" and how interesting that Samson, the strong one, could be totally dominated by Delilah, the weak one. Nevertheless, his ultimate loss of strength-being tamed by the wit of a woman (Delilah) is somewhat similar to stories such as Beauty and the Beast; albeit with the woman appearing as more of the villian in this story. Delilah calls for a servant to shave Samson's seven locks. Since that breaks the Nazarite oath, God leaves him, and Samson is captured by the Philistines. (Judges 16:20). The gouge out his eyes. After being blinded, Samson is brought to Gaza, imprisoned, and put to work grinding grain.

The lion is very significant in the story. God was trying to teach Samson something about the degree of power that he possessed. There is a lion in our life, as well. Peter writes that our adversary, the devil, goes about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. He is our lion, seeking to tempt us, to draw us away from obedience to Jesus Christ.

Samson learned that God was adequate to meet any need he had. In our own life God is adequate; that He is slaying our Philistines, and that he has dealt with the lion in our life.

God will give us up to the passions of our own life, if we insist on it. Samson grinding away at the mill is a vivid illustration of what happens in the inner man. There is a blinding--a loss of a sense of moral perspective and vision. The is a binding--a loss of our freedom and liberty and mobility in the Spirit. There is a grinding--a sense of futility and boredom and purposlessness about life, or just going around and around and around inside.

God never forgets us. When He takes His hands off of us and lets us go, He is still right there available to us. He never abandons us, He is there ready to respond to His entreaty. Samson grinding at the mill brought his life to mind, realized what had happened to him, and knew that his strength lay in his Lord.

by Patti Hallford

Jdg 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he knew not that the LORD was departed from him.

Num 14:43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

Jos 7:12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

We are made in America.
We are truly a special kind.
Because not everywhere will you find.
People who value our freedom and rights.
Who will defend our country in all fights.
People with skin that is white, tan, red, and brown.
Who don't look down upon one another with a frown.
For we are all citizens of the same great country.
We are all happy to be made in America
What a beautiful place to be!

One "I"

One minute makes a difference
When running for the train.
One car will change your day
If you're in a crowded lane.
One sentence works a wonder,
If it's needed to be heard.
One deed brings a person light,
As does one kindly word.
One meal is often missed,
One crime means doing time,
One shoe is always searched for,
As is, at times, one dime.
But the greatest One of all,
Be it parent, teacher, friend,
Is the one with you when you're down;
Beside you to the end.

"My Favorite Things"

Today medical science has provided us with solutions to many of the physical problems that used to be associated with aging. We know so much more than we used to about the benefits of preventive medicine, and because of that knowledge, advancing age no longer guarantees infirmity.

Julie Andrews did a concert for AARP. Among her selections was a song from "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things." She altered the lyrics to fit in with the AARP theme. Here are the new words to that famous melody.

"Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
"Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
"Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
"These are a few of my favorite things.
"Cadillacs, cataracts, hearing aids, glasses,
"Polident, Fixodent, false teeth in glasses,
"Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
"These are a few of my favorite things.
"When the pipes leak,
"When the bones creak,
"When the knees go bad,
"I simply remember my favorite things.
"And then I don't feel so bad.
"Hot tea and crumpets, and corn pads for bunions,
"No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
"When we remember our favorite things,
"When the joints ache, when the hips break,
"When the eyes grow dim,
"I simply remember the great life I've had,
"And then I don't feel...so bad!"

Memorial Day

In honor of all the men and women in the Armed Forces who have fought for our freedom of speech, religion, and all of our other freedoms that makes up the United States of America.

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah, Glory, glory, hallelujah,
Glory, glory, hallelujah, His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps;
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His truth is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never sound retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
O be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant my feet!
His truth is marching on.

In the beauty if the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free;
His truth is marching on.

Preyed On and Prayed For

Your Pastor: Is he preyed on or prayed for? If spiritual leaders are not prayed for they will be preyed on by a host of destructive forces. "Could the Pastor be the least prayed for person in church?" We need to pray for the protection of our Shepherd (Pastor) from Satan's fiery darts.

The more people in church who are praying for the Pastor, the fewer will be left to join the firing squad.

Solomon prayed for Wisdom
Paul prayed for Grace
Nehemiah prayed for Israel
King Hezekiah prayed for Blessings
Elisha prayed for Eyes
And somebody prayed for me.

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. Luke 22: 31-32

Elijah's life was summed up in two words...'he prayed.'

Be a Barnabus to your Pastor. The apostle Paul had a faithful companion by his side, Joseph of Cyprus, nicknamed Barnabus, which meant "Son of Encouragement." Barnabus stood with Paul through shipwrecks, stonings and rejection.

"...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16

Perseverance

What is perseverance?

Perseverance is commitment, hard work, patience, endurance. Perseverance is being able to bear difficulties calmly and without complaint. Perseverance is trying again and again.

Perseverance and failure cannot coexist. Failure happens when you quit. When all is said and done, perseverance, commonly referred to as "stick-to-itiveness," is the ultimate success insurance. Nothing can take its place.

From learning to walk to riding a bicycle, our childhood teaches us that failure only occurs when we stop trying. It is a lesson many of us need to revisit in our adulthood. We need to consciously apply the techniques and principles that keep us on the "perseverance track."

The Christian life is like a race in which perseverance is necessary to reach the finish line. Sadly, many have abandoned this race due to lack of perseverance. Many have stumbled and decided not to get up. Many have been discouraged and stopped running. Those who were conscious of the great importance of perseverance, in the midst of difficulties and temptation, were able to finish the race.

Floggings and jail couldn't hinder Paul and Silas from singing and praying:
"And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them." Acts 16:25

God is delighted with those who persevere in spite of opposition:
"Then the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job... Job 1:8; 19-22

The benefits of Persevance--to perfect our lives for when temptations and trials arrive we can resist:
...that the trying of your faith worketh patience. James 1:2-4

We can have the ability to help others persevere:
...that we may be able to comfort them which are in any toruble... 2 Cor. 1:4

The strength to persevere, for us, is a supernatural reward that God gives us. (Heb.10:35-39).
...be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Rev. 2:10.

--Patti Hallford

Twas The Day of Friendship Sunday

“Twas the day of the Friendship dinner, when all through the church,
Setup crews were busy with details, sand and nails were in search;
The tents were up in the parking lot with care,
In hopes that guests soon would be there;

The children were dressed in yellow, blue and red,
While visions of fun and games danced in their heads;
And teachers dressed in casual wear, and I in my cap,
We had just settled down with a Sunday school map.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the windows we flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The sun on the breast of the new-fallen dew
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects anew,
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But basketballs goals, and five moon bouncers set up here,

Our Pastor excited, so lively and quick,
Bro. Kenny has grills, and wood by the rick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Todd! Now, Cosme! Now, Will and Andy!
On, Charles! On, Eddie! On, Mark and Randy!
Fill up the parking lot to the back wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, look to the sky,
So up to the platform the musicians they flew,
With the children’s choir, and Sis Carmen too.

And then, in a moment, I heard them sing
The children’s melodious voices begin to ring.
As I drew in my breath, and was turning around,
Across the platform Bro. Elms came with a bound.

He was dressed in casual clothes from his head to his toe,
And his clothes were disheveled but hardly did show;
A mic in one hand, and took one step back,
And he greeted the visitors without any slack.

His eyes—how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He opened his Bible and read a short verse,
The teachings of God must come first;

Makeovers are like caterpillars that eat the leaves away,
Miracles are beautiful butterflies that will come your way.
The lesson was short, anticipation filled the air,
Everyone was ready for hamburgers, hotdogs and the social affair.

We had bouncers for the young and old,
And everyone had a blast,
Preparation was far-reaching, time shall unfold,
Pictures, slideshows, and memories will be a thing of the past.

There was even an “old fashion game,” called jump rope,
Some jumped fast, double Dutch, high stepping and others just loped.
The young people were busy as little elves
And I laughed when I saw them, in spite of myself.

Cleanup crews sprang to the kitchen and the parking lot,
There was plenty of work for everyone who sought.
We had a “Grand Ole Time,” which was just right,
“Thank you to all, and to all a good-night.”

Star-Spangled Banner

A recent poll found that two out of three American adults don't know all of the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner"--and many don't even know which song is our National Anthem or why it is written. Where did the people who do know the words say they learned "The Star-Spangled Banner" and other Patriotic music? At school!

Let me tell you a little bit in a short story about the history of our flag and the Star-Spangled Banner which was written by Francis Scott Key, after he witnessed a British attack during the war.

An eerie silence fell across the early morning darkness on the morning of Sept. 14, 1814, and it was the first time in more than 18 hours that things had been quiet. The previous day more than 1,800 bombs, cannonballs, and the new Congreve rockets had lit the sky. and shattered the peaceful harbor. From the deck of his sloop behind the enemy fleet a young man breathed a sigh of relief. "Did you see it still there?" he may have asked his friends.

His friends knew to what Francis Key was referring. The men had strained their eyes through the darkness of night for the last several hours to get a glimpse of the American flag that flew from Fort McHenry. The flag was 30 feet high and 40 feet wide. But as darkness had fallen, the only time the flag could be seen was during those seconds when it was momentarily lit by bombs the enemy hurled at the small fort. As long as the men and their companion Colonel John Skinner could see the flag flying, they knew there was still hope that their Nation had survived.

The invasion by the British soldiers continued, and it did not look promising for the 16 United States of America. The British ground troops afforded the opportunity to position themselves for one final, crushing assault. Now and then a brief flicker of light from an exploding rocket would reveal what Mr. Key thought might be that hugh flag still flying proudly over Fort McHenry. Maybe he even caught himself anticipating, even hoping for another billiant flash of light from the enemy rockets. He stopped himself, realizing that the same explosions that lit the skies to reveal the flag and allay his fears, rained death on the men who fought to keep that flag flying.

So intense was the final bombardment that the early morning dawn was filled with smoke, and the odor of burned gunpowder. So thick was the curtain of smoke, even the morning sunshine could not reveal whether or not the flag still waved. The quiet returned. The men watched as the British ships began to withdraw. Had the fort, badly weakened by the enemy bombardment finally fallen to the British ground troops?

The sloop(ship) alone in the bay, the men look fearfully towards the shoreline. A breeze began to move across the water's surface and the smoke of the battle began to shift ever so slightly to reveal patches of blue sky. In the distant blue there appeared new colors--red, white, and blue. What a welcome site, hearts swelled with hope, and pride in the men who so valiantly fought through the night to keep that flag flying.

Reaching into his pocket Francis Scott Key withdrew an envelope, and began to write:

"O, say! can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?"

"And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O, say! does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"

Mr. Key never knew that his poem would later be our National Anthem. It was not officially recognized as such until 1931.

Friends/Friendship

What is friendship? Friendship is the evidence you portray in what kind of friend you really are. Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more humans. Friends will welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. (Altruism is selfless concern for the welfare of others.) Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, they will share enjoyable activities. Friends will engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship. A friend is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them. Value that is found in friendships is often the result a friend demonstrating the desire what is best for the other, sympathy and empathy, honesty, in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth, and mutual understanding.

Friendship is considered to be closer than acquaintanceship, although there is a range of degrees in both friendship and acquaintances.

David and Jonathan were heroic figures of the Kingdom of Israel, whose friendship was recorded favorably in the Old Testament in the books of Samuel.

Friendship can be mistaken for comradeship. Comradeship is the feeling of affinity that draws people together in time of war. In wartime comradeship, is confused with friendship. Wartime always brings with it this comradeship, which is the opposite of friendship. As a war ends, enemy recedes, comrades return to being strangers, who lack friendship and have little in common.

"Fair weather friend" is a friend who supports others only when it is easy and convenient to do so.

"True friend" supports their own friends through emotional difficulties. The true friend often sacrifices something of his or her own (usually their time and resources) in order to help the friend in need. True friends are known to be very rare. A true friend may not be your best friend but someone who you know will be there for you.

"Best friends" is a friend to whom one feels closest. Best friend relationship can often be complex.

Un-cut glory

I Cor.11:3-16
This article was sent to me and I would like to share it.

Bill and I went to church in Alexandria, LA last weekend and I saw a young lady and her husband that I have known for a couple years.

Her name is Rachel and I forgot her husband's name, but the testimony he shared with me touched me so much. This is how I remember the testimony:

Rachel's husband was diagnosed with a degenerative nerve disease that is ultimately fatal, no cure. All his tests initially were positive for this disease. This disease was very painful, it began in his feet. I remember being in Jackson, Mississippi at Thanksgiving time, when I first heard the awful news. Well, I asked him how he was doing, and I told him the reason I was asking is because he looked great. And I will give you his answer as closely as I can remember.

Rachel got up one morning after the diagnosis was given to them, she took her long, uncut hair down and laid it over her husband's feet. She said, "Lord, I made a covenant with you not to cut my hair. My hair is a veil of protection for me and my family. My hair is my glory and power with the angels. And as I lay my hair before you, uncut in obedience to your Word, I am asking you to heal and protect my husband from this disease that has been diagnosed." By this time tears are just rolling down both of our faces, how powerful is that!! Well, he went back to the doctor over the next few weeks and months and every test that they did was negative, and the doctor's only explanation was that the machines must have not been working correctly. But we know that God deserves the glory for his healing.

I just wanted to share this powerful testimony with all the ladies. Your long, uncut hair us your glory, your power with the angels, and a covenant between you and the ONE that will supply all your needs. It is worthy of repeating and our Pentecostal ladies need to hear it. God is faithful.

What is Beauty?

Beauty is a quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind. An "object of beauty" is anything that reveals or resonates with personal meaning. Religious and moral teachings focus on the "divinity" and "virtue" of beauty, and natural beauty as an aspect of spiritually and truth.

The opposite of beauty is "ugliness," the lack of beauty, which stimulates displeasure and engenders a deeply negative perception.

What is your idea of beauty? What would you change about yourself if you could? The logic of most people (especially women and girls) is that to be successful you must first be beautiful. Hollywood is leaving the wrong impression on young girls about being beautiful. It is a dangerous thought-pattern, because you are placing your self-esteem in the hands of others and what they think of you.

What is Beauty? It is not the physical appearance. It's what is found on the inside, what is in your heart. Humility is beauty. Security and self-esteem are beautiful. And knowing God brings beauty, and because He loves you and accepts you it brings security and self-esteem to your life.

"Quotes"

"Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose."

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."

"Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength."

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage."

"Man can live 40 days without food, about 3 days without water, about 8 minutes without air, but only for 1 second without hope."

See It Through

When you're up against a trouble,
Meet it squarely, face to face;
Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
Plant your feet and take a brace.

When it's vain to try to dodge it,
Do the best that you can do;
You may fail, but you may conquer.
See it through!

Black may be the clouds about you
And your future may seem grim,
But don't let your nerve desert you;
Keep yourself in fighting trim.

If the worst is bound to happen,
Spite of all that you can do,
Running from it will not save you,
See it through!

Even hope may seem but futile,
When with troubles you're beset,
But remember you are facing
Just what other men have met.

You may fail, but fall still fighting;
Don't give up, whate'er you do;
Eyes front, head high to the finish.

SEE IT THROUGH!

This is a Bible scripture that kept going through my mind, so I thought I would share it with everyone else. I will write more later.

The Lord God is my strength, and He will make my feet like hinds' feet, and He will make me to walk upon mine places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

Hab.3:19
Ps.18:33

Hinds' feet means He makes my feet like deer's feet, and sets me on my high places.

It Shows in Your Face

You don't have to tell how you live each day;
You don't have to say if you work or you play;
A tried, true barometer serves in the place,
However you live, it will show in your face.

The false, the deceit that you bear in your heart
Will not stay inside where it first got a start;
For sinew and blood are a thin veil of lace--
What you wear in your heart, you wear in your face.

If your life is unselfish, if for others you live,
For not what you get, but how much you can give;
If you live close to God in His infinite grace--
You don't have to tell it, it shows in your face.

Do you find yourself discouraged with your life's circumstances? Do your situations seem to hard to handle? Dark mysteries bring great blessings. In the gloom, qualities like faith, grit, and dedication, are stretched to limits we have never before reached. When life seems so oppressive we are oblivious to our triumphs. In pristine conditions eyes of faith can see forever. It is the conditions, not you, that have deteriorated. Earth sees us flattened on the wrestling ring canvas in faith's fight. Heaven sees us forming on the canvas of the Great Artist. Half-completed works of the art look ugly. All that matters is the finished masterpiece. Forget appearance. Yield to the Artist. The result will be breath-taking.

--Patti H.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

--Eleanor Roosevelt

"Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
Joshua 1:9

Valentine's Day

What is Valentine's Day?

It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending Valentine cards, candy or donations to charities, often anonymously.

The Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately One Billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas. Estimates show that women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.

Here's what Valentine's Day mean to a few children at Life Tab:

Madison: Valentines Day is a time for love. Love is caring and showing respect.

Kelsey: Valentines Day is somebody falling in love. Love is having a crush on someone. Love is sometimes loving your brother.

Howie: Valentines Day is getting cards and candy.

Darren: Valentines Day is love, parties, and candy. Love is about loving each other, and having a girlfriend.

If only adults could look through the eyes of a child and see how simple love could really be, then there wouldn't be so many divorces, and broken homes. The Love of God is so much Greater.

All I Need

A young woman was packing a suitcase for a long trip.

She said to a woman who was watching her, "I'm just about finished. I only have to put in a guidebook, a lamp, a mirror, my favorite love letters, a microscope, a telescope, a volume of fine poetry, a song book, a few biographies, a package of old letters, a sword, and a set of books I have been studying."

The onlooker gasped, "How do you intend to get all that in your suitcase? It's almost full now!"

The young woman replied, "Oh, all that won't take much room."

She then walked over to a table, picked up her Bible, placed it in the corner of her suitcase, and closed the lid.

Winking at her friend, she said, "And I even got in a loaf of living bread, too."

Share this traveling secret with all you know!

Remind them that HIS word is All They Need.

Never Give In

"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

Beginning

To all of my blogging friends,

I will give this blogging a chance to see if I like it. I'm not sure yet. I can think of things to write, but when I sit down to actually to write my mind goes blank. I guess I have short-timers memory.

I will try to write something inspirational, or have some good clean jokes, quotes, or quips to keep the attention of those of you who get bored very easily.
